This château has been now transformed into a contemporary, stylish and modern comfort hotel with 12 rooms, two suites and a spacious apartment. The contrast with the original architecture and the modern touch makes Les Merles a luxurious, charming and attractive hotel whilst still retaining an intimate, friendly and cosy atmosphere. Within the grounds, there is a spa, golf course, tennis courts and a swimming pool.

There are four different room types, standard double, luxury double, suite and apartment.  They have all been renovated recently, with a contemporary style to contrast the elegance of the 17th century castle.  

The rooms include bathrobe and slippers, hair dryer, flatscreen TV, safe, free WiFi and a telephone.

Children are welcome at the Château, and are catered for in the restaurant with a separate menu.

Dating back to 1597, Château des Vigiers is an internationally-renowned Hotel, Golf & Country Club. There are rooms in the historic château building, as well as in the Périgord style "Dépendances" building and in the eco-friendly Relais which takes the style of the regional tobacco barns. 

There are 25 uniquely decorated rooms on the premises, each with a little French taste of times gone by. The rooms and building itself will enchant as well as relax, with masterpiece fireplaces, curving staircases and immaculate grounds. 

Home to a 27 hole golf course, rated in the top 10 in South-West France. It is includes a driving range, practice greens and bunkers, as well as on-site professionals.

4. Chateau de la Fleunie, Hotel

This Château dates back to the 12th century and the original character shines throughout. Decorated in a classic style with rooms in its towers and antique furnishings, this is a truly unique place to stay. Over the years though, a number of modern delights have been integrated, including an outdoor swimming pool, sauna and tennis courts.

The castle is set in a 106 hectare estate, surrounded by woods and hills.  There are 33 rooms in the hotel, with the most classically decorated being housed in the towers with antique furnishings.  In the annexe, the rooms are more modern, and have a nice view over the pool.

There are two eateries in the grounds. The Bistrot Piscine, which is open throughout the summer for lunch, serving refreshing summer dishes including crepes, waffles and ice-creams until late afternoon.

For more of a fine dining experience, visit the the Gourmet Restaurant. With modern light dishes celebrating the finest local product.

This charming boutique hotel is located in a vineyard, just a short drive from Saint-Emilion. The hotel offers a natural pool with fresh water and a nice garden overlooking the property's 7 acres of vineyards.

Each room is decorated according to a theme: British Land, Indian Fusion, Campagne Francaise, Asian Mood, Pop Art Room, African Lodge, Black & White, Stella di Mare, Out of Africa...

6. Chateau La Thuiliere, Saint Front de Pradoux

The white brick, red timber frames and slate roofs of this gorgeous château make an impressive impact. Inside it has been converted into a sleek and chic boutique hotel, which fabulously mixes the old features of the château with the modern interior design.

The château is surrounded by organic growers and producers, the restaurant combines the culinary tradition of the Dordogne with those of the owner's Hispanic roots all served with a modern twist.

This splendid château in Monpazier has been built using the classic honey stone brick and slate roofing of the region. The hotel is excellently run, has an appreciated quiet location and tastefully decorated rooms. 

The hotel has 17 bedrooms, which are all non-smoking.  Each of the rooms has a fridge, free WiFi, flatscreen TV, phone and a hair dryer.  The Double XL rooms can also be joined together and there is a room available for reduced mobility guests.

There are two restaurants, which serve 'Perigord cuisine'.  Restaurant Eleonore is open for dinner service and is a small gourmet restaurant within the hotel, catering to just 28 covers. Restaurant Bistrot 2 is a modern Bistrot, which is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  It serves home made, seasonal food in an informal environment.

Breakfast can be enjoyed in the restaurant, garden, poolside and even your bedroom.

8. Chateau de Lanquais, Lanquis

Self-titled as the "Unfinished Louvre in Périgord", this château combines medieval fortifications with an incomplete Renaissance palace. 

Built by the architects who designed the Louvre, the catholic-style palace was apparently attacked by Protestants during construction, leaving its façade badly damaged. The building works were never completed. Two of its impressive rooms have been converted into bedrooms where guests can stay

From the early 11th century, this castle was coveted by several turbulent lords. It then became the summer residence of the bishops of Tulle, and successively had to endure the wars of religion followed by those of the French Revolution. 

It was converted into a Hotel-Restaurant in the late 1920s. By becoming a traditional hotel and restaurant, the castle has lost none of its charm of yesteryear. The rooms are classically decorated and they have a good restaurant with fantastic views from its terrace.

Each of the rooms and suites are air conditioned, and equipped with a hair dryer, mini-bar, flat screen TV, free WiFi, safe and a selection of welcome products.
