Les Jardins d'Eau Garden, Vitrac

Water gardens with lush vegetation in the heart of Perigord Noir

featured in Sights & sites

Set within three hectares the water gardens in Carsac-Aillac offer a new place to walk that will delight young and old, tourists and locals.

Their uniqueness lies in the component elements: diversity of pools, calm waters, waterfalls, streams, lush vegetation enriched by lotus flowers with multiple colors, each one more beautiful than the other. The varieties present, from America and Asia, are perfectly suited to the climate here (most will be in bloom from May to October).

Who should go

This is great place for people interested in plants and nature and for those looking to escape the crowds during the busy summer months.

Visitor comments

  • "The gardens are sited out of the way next to the Dordogne river and so is set in peaceful suroundings. The gravel path walk took us over an hour to walk but we took a seat several times to read and take in the atmosphere. There are plenty of photo opportunities with stunning vistas, unusual aquatic plants and plenty of frogs!!!! This park is not geared towards kids but if yours are the type who enjoy the simple things and nature, I think they'd have fun here. A couple of ponds feature some impressive koi carp. The water maze and bamboo area is pretty neat. Thoroughly enjoyed." - Trip Advisor
  • "My friend and I were very impressed with these beautiful gardens. It is a relaxing, tranquil place. Not a good place to bring kids, they will be bored. You also need to be surefooted and ambulatory, although I did see a guy with a cane making a go of it. They have some very rare Lotus plants that had probably been flowering more last month, still I had never seen any in flower, so it was exciting. Lots of water lilies along with other aquatic plants. It is fun to watch the large frogs jump from pad to pad." - Trip Advisor
  • "Excellent and clear footpaths between beautiful ponds and green areas, beautiful water-flowers with frogs all around, nice benches below huge trees, hidden, cool and interesting gems (bamboo area), and more and more. Above all, when coming back to the entrance, there's a large aquarium with fish food (from the reception) to feed and play with the large fish there." - Trip Advisor
