Chateau de Castelnau, Bretenoux

Red brick fortified castle originating in the 13th-century

Imprint
Updated

Not to be confused with the Château de Castelnaud, this château close to Brenetoux stands as an incredible example of a fortified castle, with a combination of architecture from the 13th-century through to the 17th-century.

Built by the powerful Barons of Castelnau-Bretenoux this castle has a square keep and high circular towers. Extensively restored by Jean Mouliérat, a singer and art collector, in the early 20th century, it has distinctive red brick stone laid out in a triangular fashion with three round towers. Its location offers great views of the surrounding region.

The guided tours of the apartments are available in French and English, however, there are also self-guided tours in six different languages including English.
