Médoc Portes Ouvertes dans les Châteaux

Médoc wine producer open house

featured in Events calendar Updated

This Spring festival in April celebrates the Médoc wine with an 'open house' at many of the Médoc-producing châteaux.

Free wine tasting is par for the course and a chance to meet some of the appellations 50 wine-growers. Whether Grands Crus Classés, Crus Bourgeois, Crus Artisans, Caves Coopératives or other Crus, the winemakers of the Médoc are passionate about showing your their wonderful châteaux and their wine.

History

The first time that a vineyard collectively opened its doors to the public was in 1991, and it was such an immediate success that the initiative was copied by almost all vineyards in France, who are now welcoming tens of thousands of visitors across the wine growing regions.

The Médoc Châteaux Open House weekend opened up tourism to the area by offering visitors an insight into what goes on behind the castle gates. Now the difficulty is deciding which one you will visit because the events have moved on from simple wine tasting; these wine sellers now offer catering at the castle, games, music and art exhibitions - there's truly something for the young, the old and even the toddlers.
