Dark and full-bodied wines

Producing unique reds, this wine appellation grows mainly the Auxerrois Malbec grape, with some Merlot and Tanat. Unusually no Cabernet grapes are permitted in its wines.

They are incredibly dark in colour, giving them the nickname the 'Black wines of Cahors'. These wines are full-bodied and often require ageing. Over 32 million bottles of Cahors appellation wine are produced each year from approximately 40,000 hectares of vineyards and 200 producers.
