Historical estate producing Sain Emilion 1er Grand Cru Classé
Situated to the west of Saint Emilion, this estate boasts a beautiful location. The largest property in Saint Emilion, their 40 hectares of wine are planted with Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon varieties, with another 15 hectares of grounds and gardens.
The name Figeac dates back to the 2nd century AD. The 'Figeacus' were a family that owned a Gallo-Roman villa on the site of the present chateau. In the Middle Ages it was a farming house of which the remains of a pigeon loft are still preserved, while a number of doors and windows at the castle can be dated around the year 1000. In the 15th century it was one of the 5 noble houses in Saint Emilion, and the chateau was renovated in a classical style in 1586. The façade was built in the 18th century.
The current owners are descendants of the Manoncourt family, who arrived in 1892. Their wine was classified as a Premier Grand Cru Classé in 1955. They also produce two other red wines.
